1. Decide not to be controlled by the manipulator. Manipulation is a sin against God. To join in the manipulator’s game is to put the manipulator as an idol before God and to allow them to continue and to join in their game is sin.
2. Expect exasperation from the manipulator. Beware of falling into his traps.
3. Prepare yourself for pain, feeling false guilt, rejection.
4. Examine the expectations of the manipulator. Ask yourself, “How does he/she manipulate me?” Write down the steps he/she uses. Don’t expect him/her to change.
5. Notify the manipulator for the necessity of change on your part. Why it is important. Hebrews 12:1.
6. Don’t defend yourself especially when he/she says, “You don’t care about me.” They are not rational or do not have good habit patterns. Proverbs 17:28
7. Expect experimentation by the manipulator with new tactics. Isaiah 50:6. Refuse manipulation. You can do it. This has nothing to do with submission. Again joining in with the manipulation is a sin.
8. Nullify your need that you have to meet all their needs.
9. Memorize Galatians 1:10. Do I please God or man?
10. Yield to pleasing the Lord first. Resist the prompting to “meet all others’ needs, give peace at all costs, please everyone.” Did Jesus? No! He spoke and acted out of truth.
TO BE CHRISTLIKE MEANS YOU WILL NOT BE MANIPULATED BY OTHER PEOPLE.
